This new course designed by Sir Henry Cotton, Benamor, is located in an area of the Algarve that until recently did not have any infrastructure to practice golf.
In 1986, Sir Henry Cotton was inspired by an old church in the Quinta de Benamor to establish a "clubhouse" that would be the first field of the Eastern Algarve. But the legendary golf champion and architect of Britain died the following year and the project has undergone several amendments, by the hand of Howard Swan and Raymond Jones until the final demarcation of the route, which was inaugurated in 2000. The church, whose estate was totally stolen over the years, is being recovered in full and will be reopened to the practice of religious cult, the "clubhouse" was built near the church and the old farm sunny house.
This is a field of wavy, but not excessively, with views to the mountains on one side and the sea on the other, with the dominant carob, olives and fig trees. The first holes of each half are easier and more conducive to obtaining a birdie, but the following are more long and difficult. The "greens are large and receive the ball well”. |
